MAKING FOR CHANGE: WALTHAM FOREST

EXHIBITION INTERN

2019

A multidisciplinary project exploring how fashion and making can catalyze social innovation and cultural legacy within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Led by Dr. Francesco Mazzarella at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion (UAL), in partnership with London Borough of Culture 2019 and the Great Place scheme.

The project entailed several fashion-based initiatives, including a neighborhood-organized anti-Brexit runway show, a children’s coat-making workshop, a clothing repair workshop, among others. The outcomes of these activities were later presented to local residents through a community exhibition showcasing each initiative. Visitors were guided by me, then invited to share comments and respond to a set of guiding questions. As an intern, I conducted participant observation to document their reactions and insights, contributing these findings to Dr. Mazzarella to inform the project’s analysis on education, sustainable manufacturing, and community empowerment through fashion.
